WeDriveU Salutes CATS on 50 Years of Transit in Charlotte

WeDriveU celebrated the Queen City’s legacy of public transit innovation and leadership as the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) kicked off its “50 Years of Transit” campaign honoring the workforce connecting Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

We’re proud of our role managing CATS bus operations and applaud the team behind WeDriveU’s Transit Management of Charlotte (TMOC), which was established when the first city bus service launched in 1976.

In a recap post on LinkedIn, CATS said, “For 50 years, we have been more than a ride; we represent tens of millions of trips, thousands of careers, and five decades of people relying on transit to move forward.

We honor not just the history of this system, but the people who built it, sustained it and continue to move this city forward every day.”

WeDriveU Charlotte GM Seyi Osiyemi thanked the hard-working team bringing safe, reliable bus service to the community.

In CATS’ announcement, Osiyemi notes, “TMOC’s history is deeply intertwined with the history of public transit in Charlotte. For five decades, transit employees have shown up every day with a commitment to service, teamwork, and community.

We are proud of the legacy they have built and grateful for the generations of employees whose professionalism and dedication have helped connect people to jobs, education, healthcare, and opportunity.”

Highlights from Charlotte

WeDriveU’s executive and leadership team members from North Carolina and beyond joined in the fun on June 24th.

Attendees included COO Tim Wayland, Charlotte General Manager Seyi Osiyemi, Operations Manager Beatrice Cutter, Director of Maintenance Bob Losiniecki, SVP of Marketing Joanna Rustin, Greensboro GM Daniel Carter, Internal Communications Dir. Brandon Hunter, and WeDriveU’s bus operations team fondly known as TMOC or Transit Management of Charlotte.

There was a lot to celebrate at the anniversary event, including a fleet showcase with wrapped buses ranging from one of CATS’ original retro transit buses to its all-new battery electric vehicles, the new Metropolitan Public Transportation Authority (MPTA), and a surprise appearance by Charlotte Hornets legend Muggsy Bogues, pictured below with the WeDriveU team.

Hitting the Road

Thanks to CATS, our team was all smiles seeing WeDriveU’s logo around town on CATS’ wrapped bus fleet honoring the anniversary. Be on the lookout for the wraps out and about the rest of this year.

Their fleet continues to expand with the recent addition of 18 battery-electric buses joining hybrid vehicles.
