Mobility solutions gain momentum in Central Texas

Movability 2023 Breakfast WeDriveU recap banner

WeDriveU VP of Business Development, Gillian Zoss, and Customer Success Manager, Marissa Basile, attended the 2023 Mobility Breakfast and Awards ceremony in Austin, Texas this month for updates on transportation connections in the region. The event was presented by Movability, an Austin-based Transportation Management Association (TMA) working to improve the region through commuter options that save time and money.

Our partnership with Movability goes back several years as part of our commitment to the region’s growth and sustainability. Now, as part of National Express North America, we’re proud to continue our support for Movability and our collaboration with local employers on solutions that reduce traffic congestion, ease parking demand and make public transit more accessible.

Here are a few highlights Gillian and Marissa shared from the breakfast:

  • Austin’s growth and how that impacts residents – Speakers encouraged companies to plan buildings and locations around public transit and offer easy access to residential areas and campaigning for city planners and developers to maximize walking paths and bicycle lanes.
  • Important role of public transit – Gillian said Austin’s new Mayor Kirk Watson touched on continuing to build the public transit infrastructure to connect the region and shared updates on the light rail system (via pre-recorded remarks). Marissa noted his message about not letting the concern over not getting something perfect hinder you from launching a project or working towards a goal. While this was in relation to #ProjectConnect and the light rail system, it’s a message all of us in transportation demand management (TDM) can relate to.
  • Kudos to Central Texas employers and agencies – Attendees celebrated local organizations winning the national award of excellence as Best Workplaces for Commuters

Movability members are always very engaged at these events. This year, Gillian observed “a willingness to learn and help push along the narratives to build, develop and rethink ways to get around Austin,” adding “It may be that everyone is just at a breaking point with all the traffic and not enough public infrastructure but there’s definitely camaraderie.”
