National Safety Month Spotlight on WeDriveU Safety Summits

WeDriveU aims to enhance safety measures and performance across our organization through our commitment to building on our safety culture.

We do so by strengthening the vision that safety is a responsibility every employee shares to deliver safe and efficient operations for our customers and communities.

We support and promote National Safety Month, organized by the National Safety Council, to raise awareness for NSC resources and practices as “the annual observance to help keep each other safe from the workplace to anyplace.”

Chicago Safety Summit Highlights

WeDriveU Safety Summits, like the one held this Spring for employees at one of our Chicago locations, reinforce our pledge to keep our riders and employees safe across the fixed route public transit, paratransit, corporate shuttles, university transit, and demand responsive solutions we operate.

The agenda in Chicago focused on bus driver training on topics such as:

  • Best practices for pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Defensive driving techniques
  • Strategies for preventing backing accidents
  • Techniques to reduce distractions while driving

Employees participated in presentations, training sessions and interactive discussion to raise questions, share insights, and provide feedback. The goal was to enhance awareness, improve knowledge, reinforce accountability, boost reporting, encourage engagement, and promote WeDriveU’s safety culture.

WeDriveU proudly operates the Lurie Children’s Hospital Mobile Health Unit (pictured above as the backdrop during our Safety Summit in Chicago). The unit, which is served by our Shuttle Solutions team, brightens the lives of children and our team with its unique wrap of colorful artwork.

One of the highlights of the Chicago Safety Summit was the presentation on defensive driving by TAPTCO. They provided defensive driving techniques to our employees, strategies on proactive driving, hazard recognition, and risk mitigation methods while operating transit vehicles.

Mark D. Stubblefield, Field Safety Supervisor, added, “The insights shared and the training provided contribute to fostering a culture of safety. Each attendee’s active participation and engagement were instrumental in making the summit a success.”
