Safety Is Everyone’s Job, Every Day, Everywhere

At WeDriveU, safety is not only our #1 value, it’s our culture. WeDriveU’s Director of Safety & Compliance Megan Dorroh explains how safety shines throughout our transportation operations in this post for National Safety Month.

As a leading shared mobility provider serving communities, universities, and employers across the U.S., we know safety can’t be confined to a checklist or a single department. It must be embedded in every touchpoint of our service, from the moment a rider steps on board to every behind-the-scenes decision that keeps our transit and shuttle systems running smoothly.

Doing What’s Right Even When No One’s Watching

One of the guiding principles we live by is simple, yet powerful: “Always do right when no one is looking.” This mindset drives how we train, manage, and empower our teams across the U.S. It shapes the way our bus drivers, dispatchers, maintenance technicians and field supervisors show up every day—focused not just on rules and regulations, but on doing what’s right for our passengers and partners.

Every member of the WeDriveU team is accountable for safety, whether they’re navigating the road, overseeing operations, maintaining our electric and clean-fuel fleets, or in a corporate services function. From pre-trip vehicle inspections to speaking up when something doesn’t look right, our employees take safety personally because lives depend on it.

Integrating Well-being into Safety Strategy

We understand that safety and well-being are deeply connected. That’s why our internal BeWell initiative supports our workforce across three pillars: life, mental, and physical wellness. The initiative is so important to WeDriveU and our parent company that our CEO Erick Van Wagenen is the Global Executive Sponsor of BeWell.

Why does this matter to our customers and passengers? Because we believe that a well-supported, mentally sharp, and physically healthy team delivers better, safer transportation services. WeDriveU’s approach to well-being ensures our frontline and operations teams are alert, resilient, and ready to make smart decisions, contributing to a safer experience for everyone who rides with us, whether they ride paratransit, microtransit, fixed-route or other on-demand services.

Field-Based Leadership, Real-Time Support

WeDriveU develops field safety leaders who actively support and engage with our operations nationwide. Leaders like Stormy Smith and Robert “Safety Bob” Kociolek exemplify our commitment to boots-on-the-ground oversight. These safety professionals don’t just review policies from behind a desk; they’re out in the field inspecting sites, responding to reports, and coaching team members in real-time.

For our customers, this means your transit or shuttle system is supported by a responsive, proactive safety team that understands your riders’ experience and can adapt quickly to evolving needs or local conditions.

A Culture of Accountability and Partnership

WeDriveU’s safety culture is built on partnership with our customers, communities, and employees. We don’t wait for problems to arise; we take a preventive approach rooted in accountability and transparency. We regularly assess our performance, track key safety metrics, and implement continuous improvement strategies across all customer sites.

Our customers trust us to safeguard their communities, and we honor that trust by making safety a visible, daily commitment. From updating training protocols to leveraging technology for smarter monitoring, we are always looking for new ways to raise the bar.

Safety doesn’t take a break. At WeDriveU, neither do we. Whether you’re a current customer or exploring mobility solutions, know that your passengers’ safety is our highest priority today, and every day.
