Recognizing Transit Professionals on National Caregivers Day
National Caregivers Day is about recognizing the people who show care and kindness every day. At WeDriveU, our fixed-route transit, paratransit and shuttle drivers are often an extension of the caregiving network riders rely on every day. They bring kindness, attention, and safety to every interaction, not just as part of their job, but as trusted partners in the lives of those they serve. Bismarck, Tiffany and Justin are a few of the many team members who earned WeDriveU Values in Action Awards for assisting others.
At WeDriveU, our fixed-route transit, paratransit and shuttle drivers are often an extension of the caregiving network riders rely on every day.

Bismarck de Melo, a bus operator supporting WeDriveU’s MBTA The RIDE paratransit service in Hyde Park, Massachusetts) stands out for his professionalism, consistency, and empathy. Passengers praise his thoughtfulness, like helping carry groceries to their apartments, which means the world for elderly or vulnerable riders. As a father of a daughter with special needs, Bismarck understands the impact of kindness and patience. His everyday gestures show how small acts of care can truly matter.

Tiffany Brown, an operator supporting WeDriveU’s WashU campus shuttle in St. Louis, Missouri, showed extraordinary care for her riders on May 16, 2025, when a destructive EF3 tornado moved through the St. Louis region, causing widespread damage and severe weather conditions. Her calm, focused response helped protect her passengers during one of the most violent storms the area has seen.
“If my grandma had this going on, I’d want someone to take care of her the way I’m doing now.”

Justin English, an operator for WeDriveU’s Fresno Area Express (FAX) transit service in Fresno, California, demonstrated compassionate care during a medical emergency. While on duty, a passenger who had just undergone a procedure began bleeding heavily. Without hesitation, Justin helped her safely to the third floor of the healthcare facility, held her bandages in place, and stayed with her while she received treatment. Later, he shared, “If my grandma had this going on, I’d want someone to take care of her the way I’m doing now.” His response reflected something deeply human: treating someone else’s loved one as his own.
Acts of care appear in many ways, every day at WeDriveU. This National Caregivers Day, we celebrate the drivers who make every ride safer, kinder, and more meaningful.
