Work Commutes are Changing
High productivity, happy employees, less traffic. These are just a few reasons companies team with WeDriveU on new ways to commute. Examples include a healthcare solutions company that rolled out commuter and last-mile shuttles for employees in Boston, MA and Austin, TX, and a leading Cloud services provider that went live in May 2015 with shuttles between employee residences in Austin and the company’s headquarters in San Antonio.
A New York Times article “Options for Simplifying the Commute” explores what’s driving interest in these solutions and innovations that are changing the game for individuals and corporations with large commuter populations. It specifically looks at trends such as “mobility as a service” and the shifting dynamics of suburban sprawl pushing residences further away from workplaces.
In the San Francisco Bay Area, for example, the authors cite employers like Google and LinkedIn for their strides in reducing the number of employees traveling to and from work in single occupancy vehicles. One fascinating statistic, the article states “…a little more than half of North Bayshore’s 21,400 daily commuters drive to work alone — a remarkable figure, given that nationally about three out of four commuters drive to work alone, according to census data.”
