Many Durham residents across the City of Durham and Durham County rely on paratransit services because traditional fixed-route buses are not a viable option—whether due to accessibility challenges, long distances to bus stops, or mobility limitations.
The City of Durham partnered with WeDriveU’s transit solutions team and Spare to upgrade GoDurham Access with:
- Real-time scheduling & operational monitoring tools
- A rider app for easy trip booking, tracking, and notifications
- An intuitive driver app for optimized navigation, trip updates & route efficiency
- Data-driven transit management for to continually improve service performance
This bold decision empowers GoDurham and WeDriveU bus drivers (aka “operators”) with the tools to provide faster, more reliable ADA paratransit trips—ensuring riders experience greater freedom, access, and independence. The collaboration is a wonderful example of the power of public-private partnerships and the innovation and project acceleration the private sector brings to public transit agencies.
“When we’re looking at the future I think of two words – freedom and access.” – Brian Fahey, Durham Mobility Services Manager
