WeDriveU Celebrates National Volunteer Week

In recognition of National Volunteer Week 2021, WeDriveU is celebrating our employees’ spirit of volunteerism. Here are a few ways they’re sharing their talent and time during the pandemic through our Partners Beyond the Bus program.

Helping others ‘thrive and flourish’

WeDriveU’s Seattle team joined with United Way of King County and local food banks to distribute food and educational supplies to the West African Community Council (WACC), a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization helping more than 4,000 individuals each year through advocacy, assistance, education and support.

Deliveries from WeDriveU shuttle drivers Bonnie Mackay, Rob Elwell, Dale Daniels, Mariano Miranda, and Arnold Dulay have supported 10-15 families this year, according to WeDriveU Program Manager Scott McKinnis. Scott credits the drivers, Operation Supervisor Charles LaMaire’s outstanding routing logistics and planning, the collaboration with local food banks, and the added support of Google Washington for the program’s success.

“We are grateful to WeDriveU for supporting our mission to serve immigrant and refugee communities,” said Issa Ndiaye, Executive Director and Founder, West African Community Council. “You’ve set the bar really high for folks from the corporate/private sector world assisting community-based organizations. I’m impressed by your willingness to roll-up your sleeves to help our families thrive and flourish, particularly those in the greatest need during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Delivering thousands of meals

There are many other ways WeDriveU employees give back through Partners Beyond the Bus.

For example, WeDriveU shuttle drivers at Facebook in Silicon Valley are lending their time and talent to help individuals served by our non-profit partner, Farming Hope.

Based in San Francisco, Farming Hope empowers homeless individuals through urban farming and cooking.

We echo Farming Hope’s post on Facebook thanking drivers Jesenia and Sammy (pictured), Arby, Abraham, Chris, Julie, Kiara and Leonel for volunteering to deliver 1,200 weekly meals.

Keeping it local

WeDriveU managers and bus drivers at Facebook were also recognized for packing 1,000+ food boxes for local families in collaboration with Good Roots in Redwood City, CA.

Wildfire relief

WeDriveU Portland also shared a heartwarming story about delivering supplies to wildfire evacuees in Southern Oregon in 2020.

James Wright, Program Manager for WeDriveU’s multinational shuttle client in Beaverton, Oregon, assisted with donation events at the client’s headquarters and volunteered his personal time to drive 2,000 prepared meals to Southern Oregon in one of WeDriveU’s ADA-equipped shuttle vans.
